fair and/or equal
People close to me sent their two children to a "special" school because one of them had learning difficulties.
The other child was quite bright but was sent along to the same school because it wouldn't be "fair" otherwise.
Now, one of their grandchildren has some problems and the child's sibling also attends a "special" school in the name of fairness.
I don't believe it's fair to keep a child from having access to that which can help her or him reach their full potential just because their sibling may not have the same abilities.
Holding one back so as not to hurt the other... Who knew? Sometimes equality is not fair.

Hmmm... I think i agree with you. Also, the very fact that they feel the need to send the other kid as well shows that they don't think being 'special' is ok... Don't know if i make any sense...
This action is a result of the attitude towards 'special'...
Pretty sure if I was in that spot, the kids would go to different schools --in the interest of getting them both the best possible education.
Yeah, if they were thinking right.
I think somebody in that family has very serious issues stemming from having felt that she wasn't treated equally as a child.
Helping children reach their full potential SHOULD be our goal, yes?
It doesn't seem like they are expecting much from the kids' futures.
